first edition. Pierce was a Seneca chief then enrolled at Dartmouth College; he would soon become one of the first American Indians to receive a bachelor's degree. This discourse was delivered in opposition to a recent treaty which mandated the removal of Senecas from the Buffalo Creek Reservation.
