(AMERICAN MUG SHOTS)
Group of 50 Bertillon-inspired mug shot cards featuring criminals apprehended on the West Coast, including Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco; 11 with a single forward- or side-facing photograph, and the remaining with a front and side view of the accused individual, all of which are men. Each card measures 5x6 1/2 inches (12.7x16.5 cm.), and includes standard Bertillon-method measurements and notations, the (often redacted) name of the sitter, and usually including the inividual's crime, where they were arrested or examined, and occasionally additional notes, such as a sentence or alias. Silver prints (one a newspaper clipping), sizes ranging from 2 3/4x2 1/2 to 3x5 1/2 inches (7x6.4 to 7.6x14 cm.), each mounted to a printed card with additional notations, typed or in ink, on recto and verso. 1908-19
