In the early months of 1780, members of the Massachusetts state constitutional convention met at Boston to draft the world's first functioning written constitution, including Samuel Adams, who served on the drafting committee with John Adams and James Bowdoin. The drafters of the U.S. Constitution, seven years later, looked to the Massachusetts Constitution as a model.
