". . . in Consequence of a Law passed in the last Session for Suspending the Tender Act . . . many of my Creditors have refused to receive their debts, alledging that they are not obliged . . . . [I]t would be a most Cruel and iniquitous hardship on me, if after proceeding by the Act to the Sale of my Estate . . . another Law should afterward step in and Stop its further progress. . . . I find it impossible to leave the Army at present a day for I think our moments were never more Critical. . . . I do Hereby Substitute you my Agent and Attorney, to take such measure . . . in my behalf to bring this matter to a proper footing, whether by petitioning the Assembly . . . or otherwise . . . ."
