Additional Details

Signed by the loyalist governor of New York, James Robertson (1710-1788), while the city was still under British occupation. After the British evacuation, four of these engineers petitioned to keep their jobs under the new nation's administration, but none of them were retained. See Golway, So Others Might Live, 30.
