Additional Details

In the wake of the English defeat by the American alliance, this French print celebrates "the English chastised like a baby." A bare-armed American prepares to deliver a thrashing to an Englishman, while a Spaniard helpfully holds up the victim's shirt-tails to expose his bare bottom. A Frenchman holds his belly and laughs to the left, while a Dutchman seated on a pile of his merchandise offers the Englishman the "horns"--the two-fingered salute of the devil. Cresswell 841; none others traced at auction.
