This certificate was issued to John Bartram Jr. (1743-1812), here described as "John Bartram (botnist)", son of the famed botanist and explorer of the same name. It attests that he had "voluntarily taken and subscribed the Affirmation of Allegiance and Fidelity, as directed by an Act of General Assembly of Pennsylvania, passed the fifth day of December, A.D. 1778." We have found no other examples of the current Francis Bailey printing.
