Additional Details

Many of the unfortunates under the care of the Overseer of the Poor in Boston were forced to flee the city during British occupation. Normally, the poor were required to stay in their native towns in order to receive support. This resolution permitted them to settle temporarily in any Massachusetts town, and recommended that they be treated "with that humanity and tenderness which their merits and sufferings in the common cause of their country have entitled them to." The legislators also recommended that the usual requirement of a removal certificate be waived.
A different printing than the copy at the Library of Congress. In the present copy, Perez Morton's name is given as "Rerez," and some of the representatives' first names are abbreviated. ESTC lists only 2 other copies. Evans 14209; Ford, Massachusetts Broadsides 1873.
