Washington is requesting troops for the campaign against Cornwallis at Yorktown. Trumbull urges Hancock thus: ". . . I cannot doubt but your state will in the present crisis accelerate the march of your troops with the greatest possible dispatch. For whether we consider the immediate safety of these Northern states or the consequences which will reflect from the present campaign, no period perhaps since the war has demanded more vigorous exertion. . . ."
