Additional Details

"The news papers will soon Inform you that we have had a little affair with the Enemy near bulls ferry--but were Disapointed in our plan of Drawing the British Grenadiers & Light Infantry into a General action in the Defiles near Fort Lee, where we had laid an Ambuscade for them--but after making every shew of Landing three thousand troops to Oppose us--they unaccountably retired without Effecting it--altho it drew us off from the Attack of the Block House--in order to settle the fortune of the day in the Gorge of the Defiles near fort Lee--with the flower of the British Army--in this we were deceived as they did not chuse to meet us."
The postscript: "My Compliments to all friends. Love to Mother & Sisters--& kisses to our little people."
