(AMERICAN REVOLUTION -- NEW YORK CITY.) Major Samuel Holland. The Seat of Action Between the British and American Forces. Or An Authentic Plan of the Western Part of Long Island, with the Engagement of the 27th August 1776, Between the Kings Forces and the Americans: Containing also Staten Island, and the Environs of Amboy and New York, with the Course of Hudsons River, from Courtland the Great Magazine of the American Army, to Sandy Hook. Large separately issued engraved plan of the Battle of Long Island on August 27th, 1776 with detailed notes of the British landing at Gravesend Bay, General Howe's night march through Jamaica Pass, and the retreated Americans surrounded in Brooklyn: a contemporary visual lens on the major British victory which directed their capture of the city and harbor less than a month later. "LVG/IV" watermarked laid paper, 21¾x18 inches sheet size, wide margins; original hand-color in outline; old folds, small spots of unobtrusive leaf-cast repairs to the margins but overall an excellent example.
