(AMERICAN REVOLUTION--1775.) Invoice for engraving Connecticut's Continental currency. Document Signed, 5 x 8 1/4 inches, receipted and docketed on verso, signed by John Hallam, Benjamin Payne, and Jesse Root (later a member of the Continental Congress); minor wear. (MRS) Np, May 1775

Additional Details

The currency issued by Connecticut during the war was elaborately engraved, including an escutcheon reading "Connecticensis sigillum coloniae." This is apparently the engraver's bill, submitted to the colony by silversmith John Hallam of New London, for "cutting 2 new escutcheons & repairing the rest of the money decorations," for a total of £3. On verso, it is ordered to be paid on 3 August, and then signed for by Hallam.
