Additional Details

This almanac is prefaced by "An Address to the Soldiers of the American Army", lamenting that "we are reduced to the sad alternative of defending the most sacred and inestimable of all our enjoyments from utter ruin, and ourselves from the grave of political thralldom." It is followed by William Gordon's "An Account of the Commencement of Hostilities between Great-Britain and America, in the Province of Massachusetts-Bay," which runs over each of the 12 monthly calendar pages in sequence. A long story from ancient Greece concludes: "What a happy prospect would it afford, in this critical day, if the ladies of New-England would imitate the ladies of Sparta, by encouraging their sons to fight valiantly in the cause of liberty." Church 1121; Drake 3252; Evans 14168.
