Additional Details

Lists pay due to each of 53 officers and soldiers in the company under Captain John Holmes (1730-1804) through 22 November 1776 at Brown's Point, Middletown (now part of Keyport), NJ. The company served in Hendrickson's regiment of New Jersey Militia. The header suggests that they were paid as of their June 1776 muster, but each man is paid for about a month's service dating only from their 23 October "date of marching." The company was apparently called up in reaction to the British capture of New York, though it's unclear whether they participated in the 20 November Battle of Fort Lee under Washington.
