Captain Elihu Adams (1741-1775), a brother of the founding father, served as a minuteman and then commanded a Braintree company in the Siege of Boston, where he contracted a fatal case of dysentery. In this document, his widow and administratrix Thankful White Adams (1747-1822) petitions the Massachusetts courts for permission to sell real estate to pay his debts, a year and a half after his death.
