Cushing orders two distinct troop detachments from one of his militia companies: "You are directed forthwith to inlist or detach five men out of your companey for nine months to joyn General Washington's armey, being your part of 2000 men ordered to be raised in this state." Also, "you are directed forthwith to detach three men for eight months . . . and order them to march by the shortest rout to Peekskill on Hudson's River."
