"We the subscribers do hereby severally inlist ourselves into the service of the United States of America, to continue in that service till the end of the present war with Britain, unless sooner regularly discharg'd, and we severally consent to be form'd . . . into a company . . . under the command of the general officers of the forces of the United States of America . . . under such regulations in every respect as are or may be provided for the Army of the aforesaid states."

These soldiers were recruited by recruiting officer Captain John Holden, then serving in Col. Nixon's 6th Massachusetts Regiment which had served at Bunker Hill, Trenton, Princeton, and Saratoga. Several of these soldiers (such as Nathan Jackson, Moses Parkhurst, and Joel and Samuel Thayer) show up in later muster rolls for the company of Captain Japheth Daniels in the same regiment.
