A stirring sermon by Cooper, pastor of the Brattle Street Church, espousing the virtues of liberty, praising Hancock, Samuel Adams and others for their sacrifices during the war, and wishing for a just peace. It celebrates "our present independence, sweet and valuable as the blessing is" (page 16) and John Hancock, "whose name as President of Congress authenticates that immortal act which, in form, constitutes the Independence of these United States, and by which a nation was literally born in a day!"
