CORNWALLIS DESCRIBES HIS SURRENDER (AMERICAN REVOLUTION--1781.) The Boston Gazette and the Country Journal. 4 pages, 15 1/4 x 10 inches, on one sheet, with masthead engraving by or after Paul Revere; minor wear. Boston, 17 December 1781

Additional Details

On the front page is Cornwallis's detailed report on his surrender at Yorktown. The rest of the paper is filled with interesting news--Lafayette's triumphant visit to Boston, an editorial about Benedict Arnold's breach of public trust, and the arrival of "General Washington, with his lady" in Philadelphia ("the bells were rung, and other demonstrations of joy were shewn by people of all ranks"). Brigham, Paul Revere's Engravings, page 201 (illustration of similar cut by Revere).
