"The earliest American magazine devoted to military affairs, embellished with many engravings including fine hand-colored maps of Revolutionary War battlefields"--Lomazow 35. Most of the content, including all of the maps and portraits, relates to the Revolution; these portions were soon re-published as "The American War, 1775-1783."

Plates in this set vary substantially from copy to copy. This set is complete per the listings in Sabin and Church, and fits the count given in Evans; a copy sold at Swann in 2022 lacked the Greene portrait found here, but had an additional map of the United States by Tanner, not found here (Wheat & Brun 139). Included:
