Additional Details

A contemporary extract from the minutes of the Committee of Safety authorizing payment to three post riders "for the purpose of obtaining dayly intilegance from the army at Kingsbridg and also for communicating all necessary matters from this house." In the wake of the British occupation of New York, the messengers rode between the legislature's temporary home in Fishkill to Washington's headquarters at Kingsbridge (now in the Bronx).
