Additional Details

Most of the volume consists of soldiers signing for their wages, as received from Captain Barnardus Swartwout. The soldiers were part of the 4th Dutchess County Regiment in the New York Militia, and had been called up for a short stint of garrison duty at Fort Constitution in Garrison, NY. They were paid for ration money at Fort Constitution on 30 December 1776, and for two months' wages the following week at Wappinger's Creek in nearby Dutchess County. Includes more than 100 soldier's signatures and marks, as well as a few related accounts. Provenance: Swann sale, 6 November 1986.
