Additional Details

Published two months before Paul Revere's ride, many of the articles hint at the impending conflict, including an essay signed "From the County of Hampshire" which asks whether Parliament has the right "to tax us, not only without our consent, but directly in the face of our most solemn and unanimous protestations." In addition, Thomas advertises a pamphlet he has just published "which contains particular Military directions, worthy to be put in practice by all Americans," and adds that "those who cannot afford to purchase, may have it gratis by applying to I. Thomas." Brigham, Revere's Engravings, page 202 and plate 70.
