Additional Details

First edition per Adams. Arthur Lee was a Virginian who practiced law in London from 1770 to 1778 and served as an agent for the patriot cause. He wrote this address with the intent of delivering it in Parliament. It concludes: "When your Laws are just, they will be obeyed always; when unjust, never. Let us, then, Sir, return to our old good-humour and intercourse. Let the hatchet be buried, and the chain of friendship be brightened between us for ever." Adams, American Controversy 75-73a; Howes L189 ("aa"); Sabin 89179.
