Additional Details

The constables of Reading (just north of Boston) were ordered to summon voters to a town meeting to discuss two weighty matters. First, "whether the town will joine with the other towns in the proviences (in this critical day) in asserting their charter rights and preveledges and whether they will choose a Committe of Corespondence with the other towns in the provience for that purpose."
The meeting addressed a second pressing issue, beyond moving toward open rebellion against their government: whether to compensate Thomas Flint for expenses on the road "a little south of the Neck Bridge." We know that Reading did form a Committee of Correspondence, but the result on Mr. Flint's road may be lost to history. Provenance: sold by Thomas Cullen / Rockland Bookman to the consignor circa 2000.
