Additional Details

Issued just two weeks after the Boston Tea Party. Almost every article in the newspaper relates to tea--anti-tea resolutions and protests from New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New York, and South Carolina; meetings of principal tea dealers in Boston and Charlestown; and a long article on the dangers of tea to a woman's health. Finally, a friend of the paper brought news: "Monday evening Mr. Paul Revere returned here from New York. The News of the destruction of the Tea, as it was the ONLY way left to prevent the chains prepared for us from being riveted . . . gave satisfaction to all the Friends of American Liberty who heard of it." Brigham, Paul Revere's Engravings, page 202 and plate 70.
