Additional Details

scarce first illustrated edition of this elegant volume describing Senator Angelo Querini's (1721-1796) villa Alticchiero. Justine Wynne lived in Padoua, served as ambassatrix to Venice, and became an intimate friend of Giacomo Casanova. In 2004, this title became instrumental in determining the provenance of a statue of Queen Arsinoe II that sold at auction in 2000 at Harrington Hall, Lincolnshire. It had been described as a late 19th or early 20th century copy, but was later proven by art historians to be the original statue that stood in the Villa's garden. 17 institutional copies are recorded. Brunet V, 1485; Schlosser 488 and 500; Cicognara 4083.
