Additional Details

Richard K. Webel (1900-2000) was a partner in the influential landscape architecture firm Innocenti & Webel, based in Roslyn, NY near Long Island's Gold Coast. Most of this archive consists of reference images which Webel collected in Europe circa 1926-29 by which time he was based at the American Academy in Rome. Many are printed in the form of identically formatted RealPhoto postcards, although as the negatives are often present, we suspect Webel may have photographed and perhaps even printed them himself. Spain, France, and Italy are heavily represented. The collection includes over 1000 negatives, more than 1000 postcard-sized photographs, and perhaps 100 commercially printed postcards.
Other highlights include: Webel's horticultural reference card file, consisting of more than 500 index cards (most on individual plants), arranged into sections on trees, vines, hardy bulbs, and more 3 copies of a special 1937 issue of Architecture & Design devoted to the work of Innocenti & Webel 1929 letter from fellow landscape architect Bremer Whidden Pond, offering Webel a teaching position at Harvard Membership certificate in the American Society of Landscape Architects, 1932 7 larger-format photographs of Horses by Zillgitt, 1926 8 lantern slides.
