first edition. Merrill was an eccentric figure who for much of his life worked as a tourist guide at the Franconia Notch in the White Mountains. Here he explains his hollow earth theory, based in part on the fate of the lost Franklin expedition and particularly Elisha Kane's subsequent voyages. When you read this pamphlet, it will all make sense. Perhaps. with--a stereo-view photograph of Merrill and companion titled "Arctic Philosopher in the Pool," circa 1870.
