Additional Details

The plates and chart depict the trials and course of the Investigator and her crew in their search for the lost Franklin Expedition and the Northwest Passage. Their journey was somewhat less ill-fated than previous attempts; they managed to escape the pack ice after being stranded for only three years. Captain McClure and his crew were the first to confirm a transit of the Northwest Passage, through a combination of sail power, steam power, and sledding.
