Important broadside declaring Jose Artigas infamous, relieving him of his duties, branding him an enemy, and offering a bounty of 6000 pesos for his capture dead or alive. Artigas, the head of a band of gauchos during the revolution against Spain, acted independently in the conflict causing Posadas to issue this edict. However, support for Artigas was widespread and he was able to defeat all attacks against him, obliging his enemies to cede to him Uruguay in 1814, where he became its first dictator, known to his followers as the father of the independence and the country's founder.
