Additional Details

A group of firemen from the Tombstone Engine Company No. 1 pose on Fremont Street, about four years after the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Behind the firemen is Tombstone's Gird Block. The newspaper office here bears the name Record-Epitaph; the paper was only published under that name from about August to November 1885. Behind that is the Mining Exchange building, where the post-gunfight trial of the Earp brothers was held. The sign for the Summerfield Brothers Dry Goods store is partly visible. Just behind the Gird Block is Schieffelin Hall, still a tourist attraction in Tombstone.
The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral took place on this same block of Fremont Street, about where the photographer stood. Few images survive of early Tombstone, and this one appears to be otherwise unknown.
