Additional Details

The title comes from the wrapper, as there is no title page. The first page is captioned "Arizona, Its Agricultural, Mineral and Other Resources." This pamphlet was apparently issued by the Specie Basis Mining Company, and includes its prospectus, as well as background material on the territory. Howes A309 ("b"). We find 2 copies in OCLC, and trace none at auction, though Eberstadt offered at copy at retail back in 1942. with--a packet of related papers referring to the Specie Basis Mining Company and this pamphlet. They include a letter from "Cousin Christine" [Stimpson] to Charles J. Andrews, Baltimore, MD, 31 December 1867, discussing her late husband's investments in the mines, and hoping to raise quick funds to expand her investment: "the elements of success in this case are so many and the chances of failure so slight." She encloses a copy of a letter regarding the mines dated 8 December 1867, and a manuscript map of Arizona showing the mine locations. Also included is a retained draft of the response by Andrews, declining her offer.
