Additional Details

one of an unknown number of copies. Presumably created in a very small number by the artist himself in the mid-nineteen fifties. Mexican artist Miguel Covarrubias (1904-1957) was fascinated by the Harlem of the 1920s and produced a book titled "Negro Drawings" in 1927 (New York, Alfred Knopf). With one exception, the drawing that was used for the cover of "Negro Drawings," none of the images found in this little album corresponds to any of the images in the book, which are watercolors. Provenance Hatch-Billops Collection.
