Sylvester Rosa Koehler (1837-1900) served as a manager for lithographer Louis Prang in the 1870s, edited the American Art Review, authored numerous books on engraving, and then served as curator at Boston's Museum of Fine Art and the Smithsonian. Most of the letters are from artists/engravers Timothy Cole (29 letters), Joseph Pennell (28 letters), and Stephen Parrish (10 letters). This collection also includes letters from artists Truman Howe Bartlett, William Merritt Chase, Cyrus Edwin Dallin (3), Robert Swain Gifford, George Inness, Anna Lea Merritt, John Sartain, Francis Hopkinson Smith (2), Frederic Porter Vinton, and authors Lydia Maria Child, Eugene LeMoine Didier, and Charles Eliot Norton (2).
