3 autograph letters and notes signed by Betye Saar, to a friend and collector. The longest is dated only "Thursday A.M."; its discussion of a MOMA Kurt Schwitters exhibit, the film "Paris, Texas" and an exhibition on the art of Cameroon at the Natural History Museum place the date circa 1985. She also touches upon her art: "Up at the studios (about 1/4 mile up the hill) it's hot and humid. I walk up & back each day, it's a beautiful walk through the woods. . . . I've been gathering bark (birch) to use in my art. I'm making some small paintings on bark and having fun doing it. I also made an installation in my studio: Wood & Shadow. I used wooden objects I found here at flea markets, junk stores, etc." A greeting card featuring Saar's work is inscribed with a message circa August 2005 regarding her upcoming Paris exhibition. Also included is a short undated note on Saar's printed card.

3 photographs include a 3½ x 5-inch snapshot of Saar; a 5 x 4-inch black-and-white image of one of her pieces; and a 5¾ x 4-inch photograph of her installation mounted on card, ink-stamped "Betye Saar Photo" and "Happy Valentine's Day," with a heart decal applied, signed Betye, and mailed as a postcard.
