A highly unusual book of black history. Literally an ABC of great African Americans, beginning with publisher Robert S. Abbott, Mary McLeod Bethune, leader and educator and George Washington Carver, to Francois Xavier, New Orleans free black, Charles Young and Zaulita, empress of Ethiopia. Each illustrated with a lino-cut by the author artist Charles C. Dawson (1889-1982) Born in rural Georgia, Dawson attended Tuskegee and the Art Students League in New York City. In 1933, he produced a large mural for the Urban League. His work is hung in numerous institutions.
