A beautiful art-deco styled painting of Josephine Baker by George John Illian, American painter (1894-1932). Illian studied at the Art Institute of Milwaukee and the Art Students League in New York City and was a member of the Society of Illustrators. He did at least one other painting of Josephine Baker and her troupe which was sold at Lauder and Howard, Perth, Australia in 2002. It's quite likely that Illian, who was in Paris at this time, made the sketches for his Follies paintings from life. Benezit, Volmer II.
