Additional Details

An exhibition of 75 African-American artists was planned at the Whitney for April 1971, but 15 of the artists withdrew in observance of a boycott called by the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition. This poster advertised a separate exhibit held by the withdrawn artists at Acts of Art Gallery, which included well-known figures such as Sam Gilliam and Roy de Carava. The central image in this poster is of a wire sculpture by James Denmark titled "Head of an Invisible King."
