Morris Nolten Turner (1923-2014) was born in Oakland, CA. The list of newspapers in which his cartoons appeared is impressive (see Igoe). His main character was 'Morrie' a red beret-wearing armchair radical who would pontificate about the Civil Rights struggle, urging other to participate.
