Additional Details

George Albert Teel (1854-1936) was a lifelong resident of Arlington, MA who made his living as an engraver and illustrator. In his free time, he was a devoted outdoorsman, making summer trips to New Hampshire, Maine, and the Massachusetts shore for camping and fishing with his wife, two daughters, and later his grandchildren. Most of all, he sketched and painted landscapes, sometimes in partnership with his wife Emily and older daughter Edith. This trove of Teel's original art, in addition to its aesthetic merit, is a monument to the heyday of early vacation spots like Moosehead Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee, evoking the northern New England countryside and wilderness in all its glory.
