These exquisitely detailed figures are the creation of Mrs. Concepcion Vargas Alfonso, a longtime resident of New Orleans. Mrs. Alfonso stated in a 1933 newspaper interview that the figures "are my own ideas of the characters that I have seen on the streets of New Orleans since I was a girl." Mrs Alfonso was seventy-four at the time of the interview. These figures are rarely seen in such good condition.
