Additional Details

Rare, early drawing manual. The 16th-century Cousin and his father, also Jean, were French painters and engravers of the Renaissance and were famous for their work in stained glass and tapestry designs. This work, attributed to the younger Cousin, was first printed in 1560. "His considerable reputation as a designer of woodcuts for the Paris printers has been developed chiefly by comparison of details from this volume"--Mortimer, French, I, 157-158 (who notes that this work is insufficiently documented).
