first and only edition, collected, edited, written and published by african-americans. The first substantial biography of the great black astronomer, written by Daniel P. Murray (1852-1925). Murray, writer, journalist, politician and "black bibliophile" was the assistant to the Librarian of Congress. He amassed the Library of Congress's "Collection of Books by Colored Authors," one hundred books intended for the American exhibit at the Paris Exposition of 1900. Murray went on to increase the collection ten times over by the time of his death. This is the first substantial biography of the great African American astronomer.
