Additional Details

The prototype for pioneering astronomer Ernest Mouchez's "Carte du Ciel" or map of the skies. Mouchez, the director of the Paris Observatory, set out to collaborate with 18 other observatories to chart the heavens. For this volume, he used Proper and Paul Henry's astrograph. The astrograph had a special lens which compensated for the earth's rotation in order to prevent blurring during the long exposures needed to capture these luminous images.
