(AUTOMOTIVE.) The Rogers Motor Carriage (wrapper title "Motor-Carriage Designed Patented & Built by W.S. Rogers"). 23 pages, including 9 full-page illustrations. 8vo, 6¾ x 5 inches, original illustrated wrappers, moderate wear and soiling; vertical fold. No place, circa 1899-1900

Additional Details

Rogers was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and developed this vehicle as general manager of the Ball Bearing Company of Boston. This nicely produced promotional pamphlet includes an extract from a review in Motor Age, a description of specifications, simple operating instructions, and assurances that it would not explode or require constant repairs or maintenance. Some of the illustrations show the Rogers in use: "Out for Pleasure" and "Out on Business," or being stopped by a policeman and "Discussing a Point of Law."

We find very little on Rogers or his company in the usually well-documented realm of automotive history, other than a reference that they produced motor carriages in 1899 and 1900. No examples traced in OCLC or at auction.
