Elmer Ambrose Sperry (1860-1930) was best known as an inventor of the gyrocompass and founder of the Sperry Gyroscope Corporation, making him an important figure in early aviation. This small collection includes a 1958 letter from Chester W. Curtis to Sperry Gyroscope recounting his 1911 assistance to Lawrence Sperry in building a biplane, accompanied by photographs. Other highlights are a photograph of Amelia Earhart posing with Sperry officials; a family photo album showing the Sperrys in Japan; a printed biography of Sperry in Japanese; and two studio portraits of Sperry.
