Additional Details

6 of these photographs depict the wreck of the Hindenburg on 6 May 1937. They include a well-worn Sam Shere press photo of the explosion. On verso are a 28 June 1938 typed caption from the New York Daily News and a 2 July 1938 inked stamp, along with other notations and crop marks. Another uncredited press photo, heavily retouched, shows the flaming craft as it hit the ground. One shows a dazed and confused group of "Hindenburg Crash Victims" and bears a 1 August 1938 inked stamp. Three photographs show the wreckage, two of them with 1938 inked stamps and one shot from the morning after the crash bearing an original 7 May 1937 Associated Press caption label.

The other 7 photographs show the airship and its interior in happier times. One shows Captain Ernst Lehmann waving from the craft's window on 11 May 1936; he died of injuries sustained in the crash the next year.
