Harry Nelson Atwood was an early aviator. This photograph was taken during his record-setting trip in the biplane "Moth" from Boston to Washington. The caption explains that "This is Atwood's flying machine in Venice Park. He came down for gasoline." Ten days later, he landed on the White House lawn and received a medal from President Taft.
