These photographs are from the collection of John F. Homeyer, an engineer who was selected by the Hindenburg Corporation to refill the hydrogen gas bags of the air ship. During the explosion, he managed to save the life of a young boy who had been dropped from the gondola structure by his mother. For his bravery, Homeyer was presented with one of the three original sets depicting the tragedy.
Also included is the newspaper article in which 6 of the 12 photographs were reproduced, and a piece of wood that is believed to have come from inside the great blimp.
